For over seven years and almost 30 releases, Direct Trade partner Nicholas Hammond continues to impress us sorting, harvesting and processing excellent coffees. Although most coffees from Catalan De Las Mercedes are separated by varietal, this release is a mix of young and mature bourbons. The interplay between mixed varietal and mixed maturity has created a coffee with light acidity while staying smooth and balanced on the palate.

Nicholas took over his grandfather’s plantation at a young age, becoming Owner in his 20’s. He’s a student of modern agronomy, has a degree in agricultural engineering and is extremely collaborative with the roastery. Our relationship with Nico extends to both his family and community. His grandmother, Ruth shares her coffees from nearby Finca San Jerónimo and Nico’s coffee is also featured in our Community Blend where some proceeds support local farmers and their families.

This coffee features the Rainforest Alliance Certified™ seal, which helps to assure environmentally and socially responsible production and harvesting practices.
